WINEMAKER NOTES
The Zeitgeist Cabernet blend once again captures the warm climate and alluvial soils found in St. Helena and the well drained, gravelly clay soils of the Sleeping Lady Vineyard in Yountville. And for the second year running we included Cabernet from the famed Oakville appellation. We love how the Oakville Station vineyard brings purity and classic cabernet flavor depth to the blend. Oakville Station is surrounded on three sides by the famed Tokalon Vineyard and bordered on its fourth side by Martha’s Vineyard. Look for this vineyard as its own bottling soon!
Although the growing season was cooler than average, heat spells in September gave the fruit its last push towards perfection. The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is pure and edgy. It is a complex and dark-fruited wine with notes of baking spices and nuances of clean forest floor on the nose. The middle of the wine is bold and filled with flavors of plum, mocha and dark cherries. Fine tannins elongate the wine’s protracted finish.
We chose to bottle only wines harvested before the historic California wildfires of October, 2017; therefore none of our wines were exposed to smoke.
