Recioto della Valpolicella is a DOCG title for intensely flavoured, sweet red wines made from dried (passito) grapes in the Veneto region of northeastern Italy. Following the traditional production phases, this wine results in a deep garnet colour. The scent is intense but very fine, jammy and dried fruit on the nose with excellent complexity. On the palate, ripe fruit, black cherry, and a hint of clove. The wine is round and harmonious having achieved an optimal balance between fruit, tannin and acidity. It is a wine with a warm and enveloping elegance, with a considerable length and persistence.
Classically, the wine is paired with local pastries such as pasta frolla, but it can work well with (not too sweet) chocolate or cherry-based desserts, as an aperitif, or with more powerful savoury dishes.
