Winemaker Notes
The name, Quella, is derived from the German word for a pristine source or artesian aquifer. Making its debut with the 2006 vintage, the wine is from a 9-acre site located in the eastern hills overlooking the heart of the Napa Valley. The site is an ancient riverbed composed of cobble and rocks interwoven with pockets of tufa (volcanic ash) that were uplifted during the last volcanic activity in the area. Quella displays an almost ethereal quality of blue fruits, graphite, and a vibrant, subtle finish.
Bottled in early 2018, the deep garnet-purple coloured 2015 Quella offers a classic bouquet of blackcurrants, black cherries, mulberries, black truffle, tobacco, and dried earth, with hints of new leather, iron ore, and tree bark. The palate is full-bodied, muscular, and layered with earth and mineral notes. It features ripe, present tannins and terrific elegance, finishing with persistent savoury notes. This wine has the balance and texture to shine today, and the class to evolve for 20 years or more.
